Diet for Type 2 Diabetes

The most common form of diabetes is Type 2 Diabetes. This is caused by the pancreas inability to produce insulin or the body’s failure to recognize its presence. Type 2 Diabetics have increased risks of heart diseases, vision problems, circulation, stroke and even cognitive deficits. Food intake directly affects diabetes because of the body’s inability to regulate glucose levels, so eating the proper type 2 Diabetes diet, as well as how to snack during the day should be a cause of concern for type 2 diabetics. Sticking to the proper type 2 diabetes diet helps in maintaining the proper blood sugar levels and it reduces the risk of complications brought about by the illness.



The most important meal for a diabetic is breakfast so that they can prevent any fluctuations of their blood sugar. Preferably, the type 2 diabetic breakfast diet should be  ¾ quarters of a cup of cereal that has high quantities of bran. Strawberries or apples can be added for some taste and flavor. Low fat milk should be consumed together with the cereals and fruits. If one finds cereal boring, then one can eat a peanut butter sandwich, with a banana and a glass of tea.



For lunch, type 2 diabetes diet should consist of a mixture of carbohydrates, vegetables and fats so that the body can properly maintain the standard blood glucose levels. Start with vegetable soup together with high fiber crackers, then for some filling, one can have a turkey sandwich, and an ounce of low fat cheese. Accompany this with a piece of fruit. If one prefers other option, a suggestion would be a pita roast beef sandwich, with vegetable sidings and a piece of fruit. Type 2 Diabetic dinner diets should be filling yet light. The meal should contain food with high protein such as lean meat, fish or poultry. Better broil and baste the meal with herbs and lemon juice. Serve with carrots, half cup of brown rice, small salad, and of course, a dessert.



15 grams of carbohydrates with 100 to 200 calories should be allocated for snacks. Yogurt and fruit, berries, sugar-free chocolate pudding, cheese sticks and an apple or unbuttered popcorn are good options.



Better to stay discipline on the diet and exercise, it maybe hard at first but by persevering, the pot of gold will be at the end of the rainbow.
